How to Spot Fake Chanel

There are many Chanel fakes out there because there is a high demand for them. Chanel sunglasses are one of most wanted brand of sunglasses in the world.

So we will show you how to spot fake Chanel sunglasses by seeing what to expect with a authentic pair of Chanel. It's quite easy to spot a fake Chanel because Chanel makes it hard for the copiers to copy as there is many signs to show it is authentic.

1. All Chanel sunglasses are made in Italy. You should always have a print on the sunglasses that the item was made in Italy, if that information is missing or it was made in a different country, you definitely have yourself a fake pair of Chanel sunglasses.

2. After the MADE IN ITALY on the inside of the temples, it should say CE. The CE marking is a declaration by the manufacturer that the product meets all the appropriate provisions of the relevant legislation implementing certain European Directives. CE marking gives companies easier access into the European market to sell their products without adaptation or rechecking. The letters CE stand for "Conformité Européenne" which means "European Conformity". They are a declaration by the manufacturer that his product meets the requirements of the applicable European Directive(s). Most sunglass brands should have this on the frame.

3. Check the fonts on your Chanel sunglasses. Many times, fake Chanel sunglasses get this part wrong. They attempt to do it as close as possible, but rarely ever get it right. If you have an authentic pair available, compare the fonts used.

4. Also all the lettering on the inside of the Chanel temples should be in CAPITAL letters. No lower case is used on authentic Chanel sunglasses.

I know people tend to think products coming out of china is a bunch of junk, but the Ray-Bans made in china is still by them, just one is put together by the Chinese and the other by the Italians.

5. Chanel is manufactured by Luxottica Group, they are a Italian company and all Chanel sunglasses are made in their factories in Italy. If your Chanel sunglasses were made by anybody else, you have a fake Chanel sunglass.

6. On all authentic Chanel sunglasses, behind the lens, there will be a 10 digit serial number unique to that particular frame, it is a combination of both letters and numbers. If there is no serial number on the lens, then you definitely have a fake Chanel.

7. All authentic Chanel sunglasses have 100% UV Protection, if your Chanel does not have UV Protection, it must be a fake.

8. Anytime Chanel is written on the sunglasses, there is always the Copyright symbol on the left of it and on the right it has the Trademark sign. Any Chanel sunglasses that does not come with the Copyright and Trademark symbols, you definetly have a fake Chanel sunglass.

Chanel is written usually once on the inside of the temples and also on both of the lenses in the corner, never just on one lens, always on both lenses, like we mentioned, they should always have the copyright and trademark symbols and the word Chanel in the middle.

9. Now lets look on inside of the temples and it should always have the model number, color code and the size information printed on the temples.

Here is a example below...
5232-Q C. 1302/3B 58[]16 135

The model number is printed first, so "5232-Q" is the model number. Next is the color code which is "C. 1302/3B" It should always have the C. for color before the color code is mentioned. Last is the size information which is the last 3 numbers, it is measured in millimeters, 58 is the lens width, the 16 is the bridge width and the 135 is the temple length.

10. If your Chanel sunglasses claim to be polarized, don't just take their word for it. You can do a simple check if they are polarized. All you need is your computer monitor and your sunglasses! Put your sunglasses in front of the computer monitor and turn it to the right, while looking through the lens at the monitor behind. At a certain angle, if they are polarized, the screen behind will seem to go dark. If it does not do anything, then it is not polarized. If the sunglasses claim to be polarized, but don't show polarization in this test, you either have a fake on your hands or an error was made during manufacturing. I've seen some frames come out of the factory with a faulty polarization, so don't rule that out.

11. The best thing to do is to go to a authorized Chanel dealer in your area and compare the one you have with the one in the store and they should be more or less identical. As mentioned, certain specifications printed on the interior temples could be on the opposite, but that's common across frames as they could have been an error with that particular batch.

You could ask the person in the store for their opinion, but definitely take it with a grain of salt. Stores are staffed with sales people, after all, and helping you to determine whether the frame you bought at a discount from their prices isn't making them any sales! Even mentioned the words "bought online" seem to automatically trigger them to tell you that your frame is fake-but, you're in luck, you can buy the one they have there! Sometimes you'll find a gem of a salesperson who can truly help, but be aware some are less than knowledgeable.

I know people tend to think products coming out of china is a bunch of junk, but the Ray-Bans made in china is still by them, just one is put together by the Chinese and the other by the Italians.

12. Buying your Chanel's online? There are lots of fakes being sold online, but there are also legitimate sellers as well, so don't assume they are all fakes because it is being sold online.

You should look at things like if they are standing by their products, such as "100% Authentic Guaranteed". People who are selling fakes may not want to put that because it isn't authentic, but sometimes they might, look closely and lots of times maybe at the bottom or somewhere around the page, you might see something like "replica Chanel", "looks like Chanel", "similar to Chanel", "good Chanel copy" as if they mention that, then they can't really get in trouble because they told you it was a fake vaguely, so read their page carefully.

If you're buying Chanel sunglasses on eBay or Amazon, you should look closely at their feedback, if they have too many negatives and mentioning the item they bought was a fake, you might want to be careful. But take a look at the big picture! Let's say they have over 2 thousand feedback's in a year and they only have like 1-3 negatives saying they are fake. Are you honestly going to take the word of 1-3 people? What about the other 1,997 happy customers- are they all that stupid? Not everyone is as skilled as you're going to be at spotting fake frames and may jump the gun! Look at the feedback ratio and go from there.

13. I would highly suggest buying your Chanel sunglasses at a authorized Chanel dealer, because there are many fakes being sold online and Chanel makes sure no one is selling their items online. Click Here and locate a Chanel dealer near you.

I hope this guide has brought out a bit of your inner nerd and offered some education so that you, too, can be a fake-detecting, imitation sensing sunglass sleuth!

Can you tell if this seller is selling genuine chanel items on eBay?

http://www.ebay.com/sch/aniboom101/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=&_trksid=p3686

Also how are people able to obtain inventory of Chanel sunglasses and frames? I know you can buy other brands from websites like overstock, etc. But I never see Chanel on these types of sites. and one glasses store told me they could never put chanel even on sale.

What if most of the writing on arms of the glasses are faded? Does that mean they are fake. The Chanel logo is located on both lenses and the serial number is etched in the right lens. Can the white writing on the arms fade over time?

Yes the white writings in on the inside of the temples does fade over time. Usually because of sweat and make up can sometimes make it come off faster.

Forgot to add, if it's fading it does not mean it is a fake Chanel.

A very useful article. I just got myself a pair of Chanel optical glasses but something tells me they are not real. All of the above information matches the actual glasses but two things that make me think are: the C for colour is written in lower case with a dot after it and while the booklet has the guarantee certificate, there is no identification number written on it. Any views?

Hi! What if the serial no. is only 9-digit like "RC0014584" and the letter "C" on the color code is in small letter, does it mean that the sunglasses if fake?
